Connect an AI assistant (MCP)
Connect an AI assistant to Supr and you can ask it about your subscriptions in plain words: "Which subscriptions renew this week?", "Pause the subscription for order #1234" or "Skip next month for this customer". It works with assistants that support MCP, a standard way for an assistant to use other tools.
The assistant can list and view subscriptions, and pause, resume, skip, unskip and reschedule the next order. It cannot cancel subscriptions or edit products. The key works for one store only, and you can disconnect it at any time.
Before you start: which assistants work
Your assistant must let you send a key with each request. That works in GitHub Copilot (in Visual Studio Code) and Claude Desktop, which are covered below.
The websites claude.ai and chatgpt.com cannot be connected yet. Their connectors sign in through a login screen and have no place to paste a key. We will add them when we support that sign in.
Step 1: Create a key
- Go to Supr Bundles & Subscriptions > Settings > Integrations > MCP.
- Click Create key.
- Copy the key straight away. It is shown once. We do not store it, so if you lose it, create a new one.
Copy the MCP server URL from the same page too. It looks like https://subscriptions.super-simple.co/mcp/merchant.
Below, use the URL from your page in place of the example one, and replace YOUR_KEY with your key.
Step 2: Add it to your assistant
Claude Desktop
- Open Settings > Developer and click Edit Config. A file called
claude_desktop_config.jsonopens. - Add this inside the
mcpServerssection, then save the file:
"supr": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["mcp-remote", "https://subscriptions.super-simple.co/mcp/merchant", "--header", "Authorization:${SUPR_AUTH}"],
"env": { "SUPR_AUTH": "Bearer YOUR_KEY" }
}
- Quit Claude Desktop completely and open it again.
This needs Node.js installed, because mcp-remote runs through npx.
GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio Code
- Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows) and run MCP: Open User Configuration. A file called
mcp.jsonopens. - Put this in the file, then save. VS Code asks for your key when it starts the server, so the key is not written in the file:
{
"servers": {
"supr": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://subscriptions.super-simple.co/mcp/merchant",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${input:supr-key}" }
}
},
"inputs": [
{ "type": "promptString", "id": "supr-key", "description": "Supr key", "password": true }
]
}
- Click Start above the
suprentry, and paste your key when VS Code asks. - Open Copilot Chat, switch to Agent mode and open the tools list. supr should be there.
Step 3: Try it
Ask your assistant: "List my five most recent subscriptions." If it answers with your subscriptions, you are connected.
Replace or remove the key
On the same Settings > Integrations > MCP page:
- Create a new key replaces the current one. The old key stops working immediately, so update your assistant with the new key.
- Disconnect turns the key off. Your assistant can no longer reach your subscriptions.
Treat the key like a password. Do not paste it in a chat, a screenshot or a shared document. If it leaks, create a new key.
Troubleshooting
- 401 or "unauthorized": the key is wrong, was replaced or was disconnected. Create a new key and paste it again.
- The assistant does not list supr: restart it fully. Claude Desktop only reads its file on start, and VS Code needs you to click Start on the server.
- "MCP is not available for this store": message us in live chat and we will turn it on.
